David Lindley

David LindleyIn the early ’90’s there was a band in Southern California called Force Of Souls. I, Lone Lee, was a guitarist in that psuedo hair band. We recorded a CD entitled “To Live And Die In Orange County”. We were able to enlist several legendary musicians to play on this self-produced CD. For me, the highlight of this project was having David Lindley play on two of the tracks. His sweeping trademark lap steel solo on the cut “Emily” made the good, but radio-challenged CD,a fan favorite. David’s driving solo and melodic quality provided a conduit for the hard-edged pop tune to gain airplay on Los Angeles’ rock station, KLOS-FM. Being immortalized on record with Mr. Lindley is something that I will always be proud of. Of course, when it came time for me to emmulate those parts on live dates, I mumbled some less-than-affectionate words for David under my breath. That is my own personal connection to Mr. Lindley. He is an extremely creative soloist. Now I am just going to plagerize his amazing bio just a little…

Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley performs music that redefines the word “eclectic.” Lindley, well known for his many years as the featured accompanist with Jackson Browne, and leader of his own band El Rayo-X, has long championed the concept of world music. The David Lindley electro-acoustic performance effortlessly combines American folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy, and Turkish musical sources. Lindley incorporates an incredible array of stringed instruments including but not limited to Kona and Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud, and Irish bouzouki. The eye-poppingly clad “Mr. Dave’s” uncanny vocal mimicry and demented sense of humor make his onstage banter a highlight of the show.
