Frank Marino

FrankI am honored to have Frank Marino as my first guest on The Lone Lee Show at 11:00 PM Mountain Time, Saturday June 7th, 2008.

Nobody is more real than Frank Marino. The intensity, passion and beauty with which he plays is unmatched. My first introduction to Mr. Marino was in hearing the album “Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush Live” when I was in high school. Frank was signed to major label deals before age 20. I have been listening to REAL LIVE which is a 2 CD set recorded on September 8th, 2001. I want to explore a few of the cuts from that album here and give you my take on them.

The cut “He’s Calling” is a hypnotic, high-energy, intense, meditative, spiritual song. The message is clear lyrically and Frank wields his guitar in weapon-like fashion. Simply awe-inspiring. Following that cut is Frank’s interpretation of “Red House”. He plays the blues with as much, or more, eloquence, expressiveness and soulfullness as anyone who has ever picked up a guitar. “Stories Of A Hero” is a timeless rock ballad with a message that is especially pertinent to in our current political environment. It is a haunting piece that I simply cannot get enough of. “Poppy” is a heavy jazz-inspired piece. I dare say that Frank draws from Wes Montgomery for the octave line played at the head of this tune. The rich harmonic minor solos weave in and out between popular melodies that we will all recognize.

There are many, many more great cuts on this CD. Go to www.Mahoganyrush.com for a complete discograpy and to purchase many other titles from Frank Marino.

  4. Lee Says:

    Hey guys,

Thanks for listening. Sorry if you had trouble getting on. The bandwidth filled up from listeners. I was in touch with Frank today. We are going to continue and do another one probably in July. Maybe he can call in from the road. The show was great and Frank was very engaging.

As far as replaying the show…I need a little help. I was very disappointed to learn today that show had a technical difficulty and was not recorded. Can someone post a note on Frank’s site and ask if anyone recorded it please? If they did and can send it to me, I can load it up so it can be replayed at any time from this website. That would be very cool! I appreciate anything you can do to help.

    Thanks, Lone Lee
